The next stage is to get yourself some slipmats like the Ortofon SM-1. Good quality slipmats like these reduce the friction and allow the turntable to revolve at its normal speed even when you hold the vinyl still. When you finally release the vinyl, the slipmat should grip the record and take it to the speed of the turntable almost instantly. Good slipmat like these are an absolute necessity and you'll get used to the way they feel when you mix. If you're going on the road, why take chances?
